DD Motor: GWS IPS
I got mine from Hillcott Electronics: http://www.hillcott.plus.com/
DD Prop: Cox 4.4 x 2
Mine came from Alan's Model Shop: http://www.alansmodels.com
Step One:
First I cut and glued two short lengths of 5mm cf tube
to the end of the cf boom
Step Two:
I ground a hollow across all three tubes and drilled
a small hole in boom for tail skid, trying to avoid splitting the boom :)
Note the shape the top of the new tail skid - this makes it quite strong
Step Three:
Motor offered-up to ground-out hollows, to check that
it fits
(it does - well, almost!)
Step Four:
Wires were fed through the boom either side of new
tail skid
Skid was bound to boom with black cotton
Step Five:
CA applied to cotton and epoxy applied to motor and
mount
Finished Item:
Looks cool doesn't it - and it works really well too!
I've had no more burned-out tail motors since doing this mod and I haven't noticed any reduction in flight duration either (although some have said they have)
Works great with the Orion main motor as well as with brushless motors
