HOTTBaP 2006

My report the the annual HOTTBAP 15mm Hordes of the Things. The theme this year was Kings and Queens so after much deliberation and advice from other HOTTites I settled on an army representing A Midsummer Night's Dream by the Bard himself.

The Gloucester gang had 3 players in the HOTT tournament and another 3 up just to play the games - had they had a raffle doubtless we'd have swept the board !! We all had a great time and many thanks to Richard Tyson from RT Games for organising the HOTT event and to Spirit Games for organising the weekend. A big thanks also to all my opponents for the great games.

Game 1.

With six member of the Saunders family present chances are you'll play one and this time I was pitted against the head of the clan John Saunders. John was using a Chess army and had two version of it; a figure version and a representational concept version using actual chess pieces. Being a true gent he offered the choice as to which I'd prefer to play against. Since he'd gone to the effort of doing chess board bases it seemed only right to go for the chess piece army. He defended and set up a nicely enclosed area on one edge with a hill opposite. I elected to take the hill to save the bother of getting stuck in all that rough.

I advanced with mages and flyers along the right whilst John refused his left. My warband and beasts are ready to take the central wood. In the picture above the single rook is a behemoth, this was my main target, the chess knights are flyers, the 4 pawn elements are hordes, double rooks are shooters, single pawns are clerics with thee rook/pawn combo as a knight general.

John's shooters took out one of my flyers but my mages advanced and sorted for some hordes and foced the behemoth to flee. In the mean time I advanced my warbands and beast in the centre.

I continue to push forward whilst John brings across his knight general and cleric to stop Oberon tearing up the middle. My spear general has come across to help sort out the threat to the right. Just after this picture John lost a cleric due to no recoil (behemoth & stronghold blocked it) and the behemoth fled the table, in a last gasp effort he hurled his last cleric into the rough to take on the warband but had forgotten they die to warband; which they promptly did. A very good game the nearly ran out of time, all I need is Phil next year and I'll have played with the whole family...so to speak.
