HOTTBaP 2003

I'd been looking forward to this for a while as working away from home I'd been unable to get to any conventions recently. My army had been planned well in advance after much discussion on the HOTT list and was to be the Artillery/Paladin variant of The Angel of Mons.

I'd planned to pick up Keith around 7.30 but as he had to drop out I got an extra half hour in bed to prepare myself :-). After an uneventful journey I arrived to find Alan's car in the car park already so I parked up beside him. After meeting up with Behind The Lines and the rest of the gang we set off for breakfast. I'd already eaten but that has never been a barrier to a bacon sarnie.

Game 1.

I was pitted against Tony Green with David Brown's Fishmen from Evil Gong; it very impressive and the Jelly fish is quite imposing. I've seen the figure on David's website but not really been grabbed by them, Tony has done them justice in a nice green colour though. Tony defended and added a hill to the preset terrain. Richard had brought the wrong tiles by accident but all were quite happy to work with what was there. The rule was you could vary it somewhat but you must never use the same board. Tony' army was mainly Hordes with a Blade General, Artillery, Airboat, Magician and 2 Riders. He deployed anchored on some rough to his right and I anchored on some rough to my left.

We both advance and swung to meet each other. I threatened on the left with the Paladin and Flyer whilst Tony brought around his Magician to take shots at my Shooters.

After some jostling for position I was able top open up a gap in Tony's Hordes whilst my Shooters were recoiled further into the marsh on my right. I'd tried to attack the Airboat with the Paladin but Tony blacked that and brought round his Artillery and Rider so instead I sent the Paladin through the gap and sent the flyer to harass the rear. Tony was able to try a few spells on my Flyer but luckily it survived and meant he had to use valuable pips to defend against it. This allowed me to bring up the Shooters in support and take on his Blade General with the Paladin and supporting Shooters. An unfortunate combat for Tony as the dice were 6 to 1 in my favour, and with me on no losses gave me a 48-0 victory.
