Artist's Statement
My work is an expression of emotion on canvas, whether it is a reaction to my travels and surrounds or my personal inner thoughts.
Colour plays an important role by evoking a reaction from the viewer be it to the warmth of the reds or the chill of the blues.
My current series of work is called "Expectations", these paintings are oil and acrylic on canvas and are loosely based on my sailing and travel experiences around the world.
When first seen they look like bright abstract landscape works but on closer inspection they reveal a village or city in the distance on the horizon. These places are imaginary but are often recognized by the viewer as somewhere they have been or wish to go.
Everyone knows the feeling of leaving a special place or arriving somewhere strange and the anxieties and expectations we as people build up for ourselves. Sometimes those Expectations are fulfilled and our anxieties fade as we settle in to
