My Yamaha with a superb tone

I started playing at the Holly Bush Folk Club, in Nuneaton in 1970, and have enjoyed folk clubs everywhere since.

I started out listening to Joni Mitchell, James Taylor music during the initial months of playing. My most influential performer remains Ralph McTell, and the warmth of an evening of his music still excites me. Folk circuit performers that I enjoy include Mike Silver, Allan Taylor, Derek Brimstone, Jez Lowe and Vin Garbutt. However, no one can replace the power of Chris While and Julie Matthews.

My Yamaha FG340 has served me well. I bought it in 1977, and it has a marvellous tone. I use D'addario light gauge (EJ16)strings which I have found to suit both the guitar and my playingl.

I look forward to hearing from you- do send me your comments and suggestions.

Other bits of interest

Elm Tree folk- first Tuesday of the month

Elm Tree Inn, Langton Herring, Dorset.

Excellent meeting of excellent musicians, and a good crowd too. Meant to be "good fun"!
Free Xpress Folk, Fridays now finished and replaced with: Shenanigans on a Sunday, at the Portman

Boscombe, Nr Bournemouth.

A good mix of evenings to suit most people, with alternating guests, Irish sessions, Local performers, and open floors.

Blue Boar Folk, Wednesdays

Blue Boar Inn, Poole

Superb room, and superb atmosphere, with an excellent group of performers. Only problem is the audience noise!!!
Session second thursday of the month

Winterborne Stickland

Moving back to the original venue- have to see how it goes.

The Albert Hole,

at the Albert Inn, Bedminster, Bristol,

every Wednesday, at 815pm.

The very best of folk clubs, featuring top artists,

and I occasionally get the opportunity to sing there too!

The White Lion, Brinklow

Every Thursday, in the bar!!

A small friendly gathering, with a fair mix of performers.

PLUS

Now have my very own "TAYLOR 514CE". A superb guitar, and one that sounds as good as it looks: perfect. Take a look at it here- www.taylorguitars.com I am looking for a suitable amplification rig now, as it sounds even better that way. It's two years old and wearing in nicely. I always receive complements on it. Thanks!

My Taylor 514CE- a truly superb instrument that looks good too!

Roberts music- samples only

Better by far.......sample This song was written through having been away from home so much, and the pleasure of coming home, even though it was just to sit in front of the fire and fall asleep.
I hate the rain.......sample I always thought it never rained in California, and I really hate the rain- with a passion. I am consious of the power of the word "hate" and  apologise  for it.
Conflict.......sample Whenever there is a war, it's always the children who really suffer , and oft times get forgotten.

To be left without parents and a place to call home is unthinkable.

Poets and prose.......sample

and the chorus

I know a friend who had no idea his marriage was gone. It can seem a sad song but in reality he is quite happy, having gone through several relationships since.

Hope you like these enough to ask to buy the full songs.

They are not expensive. Or maybe just the songbook.
