Where does a number one start its life.? Answer the cynic in me says in the accounts department of a record company office. The producer in me says from the moment you hear this sound in the studio that has number one written all over it. And if its not on the radio within days the moment can move on.It,s a natural propulsion moment. |

Everything is vulnerable to exploitation but when is a gambol by an investor a exploiting moment? Well in my experience the successful artist is the one that recognizes their talents and after a lick on the ice-cream goes back to school and does some real math's in fact the real success stories I have witnessed and still selling cool, became virtually chartered accountants first and legends second. or their manager became as famous as them. |

When is natural talent enough? So When is natural talent enough? Quick answer ..When its so obvious Long winded answer When a record company gives an artist a secure future contract.3 to 20 years or 3-10 albums. With options blahblahblah |

So what happens? Well Pop is a formula of the people a catchy tune that can unite people on all levels of individual sharing awareness. The sharing is probably the best thing. People all have their own moments we all fall in love sometime and that experience alone probably sells the most in pop songs. The stand against futility of a natural inequality through historic, into political change, fuels and empowers peoples. sense. of doing something. Freedom the real natural gift is always attractive when formatted at the right times.?? The very now awareness. Girl Power ?? The energy of empowerment.. Well being male I can only want the equality of opportunity I.e.. got a ticket to the world and I,m going to use it ...and now we,re talking freedom Then there's religion...... yeah love . As long as it don,t get obsessive. Be real. |

Moments I remember
|
| Tools of change When I first started recording 1980 it was a mono tape machine doing 7 takes and more before the sound was balanced to product. a multitrack was very expensive. Studios were a months wage a day and few and far between. A new product emerged the Portastudio 4 track.244 Tascam, were wonderful new ideas came daily, my appetite grew and one day in the town of Bath I met a south American band buskin in the streets fantastic chirango player Horka Lara . And pan piper .I offered to record them for my own experience and wish to help develop their sales possibilities and exposure. I had been taken on at Mushroom studios Bristol England as tape OP and trainee Recording and balance engineer. Studios then needed staffing technicians on all the big machines Studers and 3m .This story carries on even today 7 albums and a new album being recorded this year. With star Zamponna player Michael Angelo band's linking up for chirango parts from Horka Lara played in Bolivia with the great vocal of Nestor. |

1986 RAVE Rizound studio at Olympia London UK Steve is invited to meet with Carl Steinburg and programming team including Jack Tramiel Atari 68000 bios chip maker. My purchased Pro tools cubase registration was no 6. My first file save was RAVE.SNG.A word my mum would use for wild of the wall partying (and obviously from "Rave on" Bill Haley and the Comets). That moment tools of change were forged and later that year in Olympia London. I met Bill Gates very swiftly he was promoting The @ sign to IBM, chip makers and trying to educate Alan Sugar and the telecom's and probably delivering a American import ban on the Atari 1040 bios chip to Jack Tramiel and of course Mark of the unicorn products of which I somehow only now can I afford and network handshaking , . I bought The @ sign and stuck it on my bathroom wall, well it was round shape .Wheres yur At. What was that Window I wanna be a gggeeegeekk. My Atari1040 and Steinburg was a month old when it payed for itself , Hot stuff in the studio. Close up moment with Bill Gates by Steve Risley" right place, right time" My first real American business meeting but first memory of meeting after invitation of opportunity for 15 minutes was a warm greeting was very inviting to share a 2-3 piece conversations inviting embracing human I wanted to be sharing hearing the words to look out for in the future of this technology. Getting up to speed ..What is a DSL ..the bigger picture of empowerment of hopefully maybe umm Balance.. What like world balance....????? Application servers what the program writers now write for. ...well 10 years after. Well precision mathematics. Now He,s a new age maths god. We quickly talked about sensitivity requirement of the artist recording transition to digital and about how sound recording at that time requires the Equivalents of trying to drink a swimming pool. I followed with the disciples until receiving a fruit juice and a sarnie and a farewell wave. he said it would take a decade and sure enough by 1996 there it was cheap digital hard disk recording on the home computer. Wow what a precision perspective . I wish he had adopted me.I wish I had offered myself to him.. |

Portishead 1989 Beth turns up at the studio looking for clues. I share my moments talked formulas and muse some chords she needed to hold the song shapes and some themes and words, bass had to everything and my recommendation's are made. She had done her sums. and I knew she was serious She was building the spring board tool box. Later that year "Big Time Playboys" guitarist "Adrian Utley "and I spent time getting the "Lx Drawmer sound gates" to hard gate the drum sound ( a big winner on the recordings) And windows of opportunity are fallen though. A record deck DJ Barry would spin grooves on top. The bass went to the brilliant Jim Barr, upright bass player. The rest of the recordings were helped by engineer "Rick Dowding" at the coach house Bristol, That's"Dummy". Ronnie your next details soon |
| Multitrack'sThe first multitrack I operated was a 16 track Studer using 2 inch tape. It had the delicate mechanics of a Formula one car. The sound that kick off from that tape machine was so phat deep you could taste the wax cut as tracks came off it like a factory finish.A Beautiful Art and startling to hear and feel the frequencies traveling through the time and space. Satisfied and despite the clean frequencies of digital still stands well running at 30 ips per second.Still my favorite cut for a live band. Here in 2002 , I've just purchased the 896 MOTU which is now giving back that similar response of excitement of a cut master..So knows a good time to cut to the chase. What makes the difference? dedication always, a good band sound is down to the teamwork of imputing musicianship. I should say I just want to be great album producer for the band. Harmonizing long enough for the take will do but the albums got to be sold. This is when push comes to shove so kick ass time. As a skilled Producer I am able to arrange and compose your recording to a very desirable effect. |

The Future ....Well Music has a mind of its own, he or she who dares wins, guitar is as loved today as ever . Youth will always generate a new approach and package it as theirs or business will. Now a kid downloads his first crack of Cubase and calls themselves a producer.. If anyone gets the angle and uses their loaf they can succeed. As for me my bubble popped at 19 thinking I had personally discovered Crosby Stills and Nash only to discover years later that the promotion of that band was one of the largest promotion campaigns ever..So here to you Fat boy Slim..... and as for Eminemnew album. Sounds like Freud's got a another chapter to rewrite. great energies about real times. Where the levers control the dreams... .
