The Red Lion at Thurgarton
16th Century Public House and Restaurant
"We at the Red Lion are delighted to welcome you and hope your visit will be an enjoyable experience"
The Red Lion was originally a monk's ale house to the nearby Thurgarton Priory, and the scene of a notorious murder, details of which can be seen in the bar. The Red Lion is a 16th century inn situated on the main Nottingham - Southwell road. This popular rendezvous is rich in old world charm and character, providing all the comforts and amenities demanded by today's visitors. Following our recent refurbishment we have opened our new parlour, the open fires, wooden beams, private corners and good company are retained. Good food is always available in the bar and restaurant. In fine weather food can also be enjoyed in our gardens.
The Red Lion also offers ample car parking with "CCTV" and spacious gardens to the rear.
Our Head Chef, James Rumble, has a fine local reputation. "Jimmy" and his team have talents that reach far beyond this menu. Whenever possible our team will endeavour to accommodate any special requests and with sufficient notice they will only be too pleased to oblige.
Atmosphere, good company and fine wines compliment our excellent food.
Weddings and private parties catered for with extensive menus for you to make your special day a memorable one.
The Red Lion is featured in many publications, including; Timpson's English Country Inns, The Which Guide to Country Pubs and the AA Pub Guide.
