From 1968 - 71 Peter was a pupil of Hector C Parr FRCO and reached Associated Board Organ Grade 7 standard. From 1971 to 74 he studied with Dr Conrad Eden at Durham Cathedral and gained Associate of Trinity College, London certification as a "teacher" of organ. He is not under the guidance of any teacher at present.
In recent years, studying has been limited to various day courses organised by the Manchester Area of the RSCM and two residential courses at Addington Palace (Understanding The Organ, directed by Anne Bond) in October 1992 and October 1993. He began studying for the Foundation Certificate in Church Music Course of the RSCM with the courses "Psalm Hymns & Spiritual Songs" and "Directing a Choir", the latter being led by Mike Brewer during 1995 at Huddersfield University.
As part of the foundation certificate course, Peter also attended and was successfully assessed in the "Accompanying a Service" module run by Martin How at Hope College, Liverpool during the spring of 1997 and the "Communications and Management" section run by Derek Froud in the autumn of 1997.
Although much of his musical efforts are directed towards church music, Peter has broad interests and has been musical director for stage shows including this Bolton Little Theatre production of Noel and Gertie. It was some years earlier that he confirmed it was an error also to attempt acting and singing on-stage! He also deputises on keyboards/bass from time to time for a semi-professional band.
Peter is a confirmed member of the Anglican Church. His main daytime work is as an audio engineer and broadcast consultant trading as P H Music and PHM and providing music/audio-engineering services including location digital sound recording for CD and broadcast. Since 2002, he has also been Membership Secretary of the British Institute of Organ Studies (BIOS).
