I've been drawing
or painting ever since I was old enough to hold either a pencil or
a paintbrush and it remains my all consuming passion. I don't create
because I have to do it for a living, I create because I can't help
but be creative; it's something I need to do to be in any way fulfilled.
I am also on a spiritual
path and this is reflected in my subject matter: angels, are an irresistible
joy for me to create, but I am also drawn by the spirit of the natural
world of flowers, trees and landscapes.
Creativity, therefore,
becomes a meditation, as much an inward as an outward process of self
discovery and personal and spiritual growth.
I attended art college
in Carmarthenshire for 4 years and in studying history of art, I developed
a love for the impressionists, and this is very much reflected in
my watercolours and pastels. I love to create using the
'wet on wet' techinque to create a dreamy, ethereal impression of
colour and form rather than that of a photographic representation
of what I see before me.
Often these images
are drawn purely from the imaginary world inside my head, rather than
taken from an outside source, as though I have dipped into a creative
source from the hidden world of the higher dimensions. Often these
are the images that are the most successful as I am not trying to
copy something, but relying purely on creative intuition.
