The town of Soubre was once surrounded by virgin rainforest, there is very little of it left now anywhere in the Ivory Coast. But logging has brought in more farming and a greater desire for commercial goods in the towns of the region. The young girls of the surrounding countryside help around the family compound and several times a week they may take their surplus of cassava and vegetables to sell at the market. This young girl was terrified at first to see me sitting amongst the discarded produce, but her curiosity got the better of her. Not five minutes after this shot she was posing for me like a hollywood starlet! |
