Nenthhead Knee Trembler20 miles approx
Start Heritage Centre car park
Track to Black Hill quarries (794444). Follow edge of fence uphill eastwards, then straight ahead uphill to Killhope Law trig point (819448) at 673m Follow ridge roughly eastwards to fence and B6295 road (853432). Cross and further east to summit of Burtree Fell (862432) at 612m. Follow fence to trig point, then southwards to Black Hill (873411) at 604m South to Sedling Lice path and footpath southwest via Halliwell House to Wearhead cross river then paths via low Rigg, Wham, High Rigg, edge of wood to Grasshil Causeway. Take Causeway uphill to highest point then westwards uphill to Great Stony Hill (824359) 708m Follow ridqe(!} westwards to Scaud Hill (a.k.a Redgleam 795363) 718m Turn northwest to corner of fence and follow to Buxnhope Seat trig point (788375) 746m Follow fence northwards to Dead Stones (794399) 710m Follow fence north to corner at Nags Head with raediaeval crosses. Turn left downhill beside fence to reservoir and track back to Nenthhead.

If the weather is bad the alternative route is Nenthead, nr Dykeheads, Dodds End 780502, Hesley Well, Nether House, Park House, Youth Hostel, Carriers Way, Blacklaw Cross, West Foreshield, Nenthall Bridge and Nenthead. 13 miles the lot but still quite exposed as the path reaches 614m on the Dodd (791458).
