Northumbrian Shepherds Walks
Brief history leading to the launch of the New Shepherds Walks Web-site: I am a full time employed shepherd, married with two children and I have worked and lived in Northumberland for eight year. I was educated at Lancashire College of Agriculture. As a keen walker I have always noticed the lack of walks in the area. As a personal hobby I started writing down my walks as I actually walked them and then researching their background both on the Internet and local libraries. As I am also interested in computers I created a small web-site and put my first four walks on it in November 1999. The Web-site grew out of all recognition. Originally it just had walks from Rothbury area but I started writing walks covering the whole of Northumberlamd. My web-site has been featured in Radio Times, Sunday Telegraph, Newcastle Evening Chronicle the Newcastle Journal and the Northumbrian. Due to the success of the web-site, I started seeking funding to make it into a commercial venture. After many meetings with various people I secured funding from parties such as Business Link, late last year. On the 26/12/01 the new Northumbrian Shephards Walks web-site was launched featuring a full e-commerce system of purchasing the walks. It is aimed at every level of walker. From short walks for the family to the ascent of the highest peak in Northumberland- The Cheviot. My self Jon Monks has writtem all the walks and each walk consists of detailed instructions, points of interest and a route map. (www.sheperdwalks.co.uk)
