The Three Peaks Walk attracts visitors from around the country and further. While on their own, the peaks are fantastic walks, the three together present a much greater challenge. The walk starts from the Pen-Y-Ghent café in Horton-In-Ribblesdale, near Settle, and takes a circular route starting with Pen-Y-Ghent, then Whernside, and finally Ingleborough before returning to the village of Horton and the café. If you manage to complete the walk in under 12 hours, you are entitled to join the Three Peaks Club, which the café runs.

The clocking system works on every day apart from Tuesdays & Fridays. To log your time and be eligible to join The Three Peaks of Yorkshire Club, you must leave you name, address, telephone number, car registration and parking position with the café. If you leave before the café opens in the morning (9 a.m.), leave the time of departure as well. The café will then write out a time card which will be stamped with the time when you return. It is essential that you return to the café EVEN IF YOU DO NOT COMPLETE THE WALK as the café stays open until the last person returns, acting as a safety system.
