ROUTE DESCRIPTION:
This route description is a guide only and must be read in conjunction with O.S. Sheets 87 & 92. All bearings are magnetic.
Wolsinsham - Eggleston (GR 999 239) Distance 12.2 Miles Ascent 191Oft
From Wolsingham Parish Hall (GR 078 373) turn left along road for 50 yards then turn left down gravel road between cottages to reach caravan park. Bear right on tarmac path through park to reach small metal gate. Pass through and continue ahead on riverside path and exit on road near Bridge over River Wear. Turn left and cross bridge over river and turn right then left uphill for 0.75 miles still on road. Where main road bears en at road junction continue ahead up minor road sign-posted “No Through Road” for 60 yards. When road bears right continue ahead up track to re-join road.
Continue ahead on road for 1.25 miles to reach gate across road, just past Blackburn Lodge which is on your left. Pass through gate and continue ahead up track 800 yards to Doctors Gate. Pass through gate and in 10 yards bear left 140 degrees on broad track In 400 yards at pile of stones on right bear right 210 degrees for 600 yards on Faint track through heather, passing shooting butts which are on your right, to reach broad stony track Follow track downhill for 150 yards to reach wire fence on right. Continue downhill for further 120 yards to reach gate in wall on right. Pass through gate and descend to forest ride.
Cross over and continue ahead passing remains of building which is on your left (Metcalfe House Picnic Area to reach footbridge on left over Ayhope Beck. Cross over footbridge and continue uphill to track junction. bear left 200 degrees and continue ahead for 900 yards on track with fields over wire fence on left and forest on right passing Eudenbeck Cotta~e, which is on your right, to reach the ford and footbridge on left over Euden Beck
Cross over and turn right on forest track West for 200 yards to reach Forest track on left. Turn left up rise and follow track round to the right. Continue ahead (still West) on Forest Track steadily climbing and ignoring all side tracks for 2.5 miles to reach cross tracks at end of newly p[anted section of forest. Main track bears right here but you continue ahead still West for further 500 yards. At this point track bears left but you continue ahead up fire break for 200 yards to reach small gate at edge of moor (GR 025 275). Pass through gate and continue on way-marked bridle way across moor to reach small stream. Cross over and continue on bridle way up rise for 300 yards to meet broader stony track. Bear right on this track and continue ahead downhill to reach gate in wail near sheep fold. Pass through and continue down track through 3 further gates with fence on left to reach road, B6278. DO NOT TURN LEFT DOWN MAIN ROAD. Cross over road with care and continue ahead down minor road (signposted Middleton-In-Teesdale) for 400 yards to stile in wall on left 5 yards past footpath sign before reaching road bridge. Cross over stile and continue on faint track between bushes with river below on right. Path drops downhill after 150 yards to stile in corner of wall junction. Cross over stile and turn right and continue ahead with wall on right. After 20 yards ignore small gate in wall and continue ahead with wall on right for 200 yards. When wall bears right leave wall and continue ahead for 30 yards to stile at right of gate.
Cross over stile to reach lane Turn left up lane for 20 yards to reach ford. Cross over ford (or bear left 20 yards to cross over footbridge then bear right to re-join lane. Continue ahead up bill for 100 yards to cross-roads. Continue ahead up walled lane with Teesdale Way sign on right for 400 yards passing buildings which are on your left. Take stile ahead and climb half left 110 degrees above trees away from broad green track to reach well defined path. Continue ahead to stile in wall. Cross over and continue ahead across field to right of boundary wall. Continue ahead with boundary wall on your left to reach stile at gate. Cross over to reach minor road Bear right and continue along road for 280 yards to junction with main road. Turn right along road on footpath for 100 yards. Turn right to pub car park on right (GR 999 239).
Eggleston- Barnard Castle (GR. 051161) Distance 6.8 Miles Ascent 220ft
From pub car park turn right down road to reach seats on left on village green Take footpath over village green to reach telephone box and road. Cross over road and turn right for 250 yards to reach main road. Turn left aLong road for 200 yards to road junction and continue left for further 20 yards. Turn right and cross over main road (TAKE GREAT CARE) and enter access road to West Barn!ev Farm (Finger post on left) (GR 002 235).
Continue ahead on tarmac road to farm (GR 005 229). continue past farm which is on your right for further 10 yards and bear left to stile on right of wooden gate to enter field, which is to the left of entrance to lane. (Lane usually frill of farm vehicles)
(NEXT SECTION OF ROUTE COULD POSSIBLY HAVE SHEEP IN FIELDS. PLEASE ENSURE ALL GATES ARE CLOSED.) Cross over stile and continue ahead for 900 yards with hedge/wire fence on right through three (3) fields to metal gate in way Pass through towards East Earnlev Farm (GR 008 222). 10 yards before reaching farm buildings bear left 150 degrees to wooden pole with power Line. (Yellow Way-marker on a pole).
Pass power pole and continue across field to reach gate in wall. Pass through and bear right 180 degrees on track towards wall on right. 10 yards before reaching metal gate in wall bear left 160 degrees for 200 yards to cross over stream and continue to stile in wall to left of small wooden gate with Finger Post to left of stile. Cross over stile and bear right 200 degrees for 100 yards to reach marker post Continue for further 100 yards to reach stile in fence with Finger Post on left. Cross over and bear left 160 degrees for 300 yards to reach stile in wall with Finger Post on left. Cross over and bear left to marker on fence post at fence junction.
Turn right and continue ahead with wire fence on your left with yellow markers at intervals on fence posts for 350 yards to stile with Finger Post to right of metal gate. Cross over and continue ahead with wire fence on right and yellow markers on fence posts to reach stile on left of wooden gate with double Finger Post on left. Cross over stile and continue ahead for 30 yards to reach marker post.. Ignore track off to right and continue ahead 150 degrees with stream on left in gully below track for 60 yards to reach marker post.
Continue ahead for 30 yards to reach broad track. Bear left downhill and cross over stream Take stile in wall on right and continue with wall on left and stream on right for 150 yards to reach stile in wall on left. Cross over and bear right 200 degrees downhill for 40 yards to reach stile in fence. Cross over and continue downhill to reach caravan park (GR 015 203).
Continue ahead for 30 yards past way-marker and pass to right of toilet block to reach small gate to right of wooden gate. Pass though and descend on broad track through trees for 250 yards to exit in field. Continue ahead on track to reach sunken track between Gorse Bushes. Continue on bearing 160 degrees for 40 yards on this track. At end of Gorse Bushes bear left across field 130 degrees for 60 yards to reach water channel. Cross over and continue on same bearing for further 60 yards to enter trees. River is on your right
Continue ahead uphill through trees to reach stile in wooden fence. Cross over and continue with wall on left to reach stile in wall on left. (Stile is 2 yards before wire fence from right). Cross over and turn right bearing 140 degrees with wall on right for 40 yards to reach stile in wire fence. Cross over and continue ahead for 400 yards to small gate in wall 10 yards to left of wall/fence junction. Pass through and continue ahead for 800 yards with wall on right. When wall bears right you bear left 118 degrees for 120 yards to reach step stile in wall. Cross over and bear right 170 degrees to descend to stile at end of wall on right and cross footbridge over stream (GR 025195).
Bear right uphill with stream on right ( beware narrow path with landslip in p[aces) and continue uphill to reach wire fence on left. Continue to stile. Cross over and continue ahead on farm track to stile right at iron gate. Pass over and continue ahead to stile on right of wooden gate to right of West Holme House Farm (GR 028 191). Cross over and pass to right of farm buildings to reach ladder stile over wall in hollow Cross over and bear right and continue with fence on right through three (3) fields for 800 yards to reach small gate on right with yellow markers (CR 032 184). Do not go through gate but continue ahead with iron fence or’ right. Pass through three (3) fields for 1200 yards. Fence changes to wall and in 60 yards reaches wooden gate with wav-marker.
Pass through and continue ahead or, path with wall on your lea Path becomes narrow with wire fence on left and remains of original fence in bushes on right. Continue for 800 yards to reach marker sign on fence post on left. Bear right 15 yards with fence on left. When fence turns left follow fence round to left and continue ahead with fence on left for 800 yards to reach way-marked post.
Path bears right away from fence and descends hill. In 25 yards ignore path off to right and continue ahead to reach broad path with seat on left. Continue downhill to reach track junction
with stream immediately ahead. Turn right down track with stream on left for 50 yards to reach bridge. Cross over and continue ahead, ignoring track off to right with second bridge, to reach turning circle with large metal bridge on right over River Tees. Continue ahead on riverside path with river on right to reach footpath around castle walls. Turn right on tarmac path with castle walls on left to reach road. Cross over road with care near traffic lights and turn left on roadside footpath river on right, to reach Blue Bell pub at cross-roads. Cross over and go straight on up Gray Lane to reach Demesnes Picnic Area car park (GR 051 161)
Barnard Castle - Harningham (GR. 085 103) Distance 5.5 Miles Ascent 500ft
Continue down gravel track (signpost Teesdale Way) and pass through gate. Follow track through Detnesnes Mill Farm. Continue along riverside over two stiles, ignore stile in fence on right and bear left to gateway adjacent to isolated building (GR 057 157). Keep building on right and follow track to gate at right hand corner of sewage farm. Pass between Sewage Farm and river and continue along riverside through three gateways/stiles. Where farm track goes steeply left uphill bear right to stile on edge of wood by river. Follow obvious path through wood. Emerge on to road and turn right and cross over bridge with care (GR 067 149).
DO NOT USE ROAD ON NEXT SECTION. BECAUSE OF WEIGHT RESTRICTION ON BRIDGE IN BARNARD CASTLE THIS IS NOW A BUSY MAIN ROAD
At end of bridge turn left onto gravel track down to river (signpost Teesdale Way). Follow track with river on left through two gales to a stile. From stile cross stream and follow field edge along riverside to a stile at edge of wood. Follow path through wood to emerge onto road. Turn left down private tarmac road (signpost Teesdale Way). Alter 600 yards cross bridge arid cattle grid. Follow track round to right (IGNORE TEESDALE WAY WAYMARK ON LEFT) and continue on track to Mortham Tower House.
Keep left at cattle grid at entrance to house and follow track round to left, with wall on right to reach gateway at end of farm buildings on right. Pass through gate and turn right and follow farm track with wall on right to gate/stile (GR 057 141). Pass through/cross over and continue ahead on track towards isolated barn. Just before barn at way-marker turn right (SOUTH) along farm track/old field boundary to reach small gate. Pass through and follow wall downhill to stile/gate. Pass through/cross over and continue downhill with fence on right to underpass adjacent to river. Go through underpass (footpath signpost on left). Bear South across field to stile in wall to exit on to public road at (GR 086 132).
Cross over road and turn left and after 25 yards turn right between stone buildings (Greta Bridge Farm GR 087 131). Cross farm yard to stile on right into field. Bear right 215 degrees across field (SINGLE FILE PLEASE) heading for prominent memorial stone in far right hand corner. Exit field via stone stile 20 yards left of gate. From stile go straight on through trees and pick up track which goes uphill for 300 yards (beware steep drop on right to river) to reach and cross over stile on left to exit on to public road. Turn right uphill on road for 500 yards. When road turns sharp right DO NOT CONTiNUE ON ROAD but turn left 10 yards towards farm entrance gate (Saunders House) and take rough stile in wall on your right.
Continue ahead down field to wall junction and turn right with wall on left for 30 yards to reach rough stile in wall on left. Cross over and continue ahead down field boundary for 300 yards to reach stile at gate. Cross over and continue ahead downhill with wire fence/wall on your right for 300 yards when fence bears right continue ahead for rurther 150 yards to gate in wall. Pass through and turn right and then left over Packhorse Bridge to reach road. Continue up road to Barnin~ham VillaQe. At T junction Cross over road and bear right on track over village green to Hall (GR 085 103)
Barninsham-Bowes (GR. 996 135) Distance 9.40 Miles Ascent 114Oft
From Barningham Village Hall turn left up track to reach road. Follow road for 500 yards till it turns sharp right (GR 080 101) Go over cattle grid then straight on initially on a gravel track. When track turns left continue ahead on grass track to reach ford/bridge. Cross over and at junction of waymarked Bridle Way follow track steeply to left uphill. Continue on track to reach gate in wire fence. Pass through and continue on track to reach old railway carriage (GR 077 088). DO NOT PASS THROUGH GATE IN WALL. but turn right 220 degrees along north side of wall for 1.5 miles (Badgerway) to trig point at How Tallon (CR 057 074). Continue straight on with fence on left for 600 yards to gate.
Turn right (North) on track for 300 yards, passing between series oC shake holes. Bear left 320 degrees (faint track) to reach large gully, which is on ‘our right. Keep gully on your right and carry straight on for 800 yards Track bears left 270 degrees at this point BUT YOU CONTINUE AHEAD 330 DEGREES TO DESCEND STEEP SLOPE over rough ground (no obvious path) for 400 yards to reach gate at forest edge (GR 044 083) Blackhill Gate. From gate take forest track down hill. After 250 yards bear left on forest track, which comes in from your right, and continue ahead for 700 yards. When main forest track turns left continue ahead on bearing 330 degrees on track between small fir trees for 400 yards to reach small gate to right of large gate at tarmac road. Turn left to Peakhole and follow road for 1000 yards to T junction at Stank Foot (GR 026 095).
Cross road and go through gate to right of farm and continue ahead across field on bearing 280 degrees for 220 yards and cross over streatn. Continue ahead up rise for 120 yards to reach wall on right. Ignore stile in wall topped with old pen wire and continue for further 20 yards to ladder stile over wall to left of wall intersection. Cross stile then go up field for 300 yards with wall on right Just before wall junction take small gate on right and turn left. Follow wall on left uphill through mshes to reach small gate ahead in wall. Pass through and continue ahead to reach farm access track. Turn left up access track to Spanham Farm (GR 017 101). Turn right in front of farmhouse to gate. Pass through and turn left along farm track for 150 yards to gate (GR 016 102).
Pass through gate and go immediately right 300 degrees following farm track initially alongside wall then downhill to another gate. Pass through, cross over stream and continue ahead uphill on track with wall on right for 300 yards. At track junction go straight ahead with wall initiaily on right. Continue on track for 400 yards to reach gate, pass through to ford. Cross over stepping stones with care. Continue on track across moor (The Combs) past isolated barn (CR 004 116), (which is 40 yards to your right) to gate and descend fieLd to Farewell Farm (GR 003 117). Continue ahead on farm access road for 600 yards over two cattLe grids to public road.
Turn left down road for 1100 yards to reach road juncdon. Bear right down road and in 300 yards ignore lane off to left and continue ahead for further 200 yards to cross road bridge over River Greta. Continue on road, bear right then left uphill for 220 yards to reach Bowes VilLage Hall car park on right (GR 996 135)
Bowes-Clove Lodge (GR935 177) Distance 6.0 Miles Ascent 600ft
From car park cross over road and turn right to cross-roads. Turn left up Bowes Village Main Street. Pass castle which is on your left. Continue up road past Dotheboys Hall (last building in village on left, made famous by Charles Dickens in Nicholas Nickelby). At end of street bear right and cross bridge over main road A66 (GR 989 136). Continue on road up bill to T junction. Turn left along road for 1 mile passing between remains of army ranges on both sides of road.
At bottom of hill when road bears Left continue ahead down farm access road to Strand Foot Farm (GR 977 155). Pass farm which is on your right and go through gate. Continue ahead on road with wail on your right to reach gate in wall. Pass through to reach road bridge over Deepdale Beck. Follow road round to right for 60 yards. When road starts to climb turn left on grass track bearing 360 degrees and in 100 yards bear left to gate in wire fence, which 1s30 yards to left of wall end. Pass through gate and bear right towards wire fence on right and continue ahead 120 yards, up field to reach gate in ~va1]. Pass through and turn right with wall on right and descend to stream. Cross over and continue ahead with wafl on right for 150 yards to reach gate ahead in wall (Gate is 10 yards to left of wall junction) DONUT PASS THGOUGH GATE.
Turn left 350 degrees and continue ahead up field for 400 yards with wall on your right to reach gate in wall on right, at wall junction. Ignore gate and turn left and continue ahead with wall on right for 100 yards to reach gate in wall. Pass through and bear left 300 degrees for 200 yards over rough moor to reach boggy area in hollow. Continue ahead on same bearing for a farther 20 yards to reach broad stony track on top of ridge at (GR 973 164). Turn left on track bearing 260 degrees for 400 yards to reach gate in wire fence. Pass through and continue ahead on track which becomes less distinct but visibLe in grass, for 1,75 miles to reach gate in wall.
Pass through gate and turn right (‘now on Main Pennine Way). Continue ahead with ~vall on your right to stile and small gate in fence (GR 942 162). Pass through and continue ahead on path over open moor, mostly downhill (boggy in places) on bearing 360 degrees (North). In 200 yards from gate path bears right over small water channel. Cross over water channel and then turn left downhill on same 360 degrees bearing with water channel on your left. Continue downhill passing marker post. Cross over smalL stone bridge over stream and continue uphill for lOOyds to marker post. Path again starts to descend and in 15Oyds pass marker post
Bearing changes to 340 degrees downhill crossing a number of small water channels running at right angles to main path. After lOOyds pass marker post. In 30yds bearing changes to 360 degrees for lOOyds passing marker post. Continue downhill for 1OOyds passing marker post. Just past marker post bear left over small gully and continue downhill for 15Oyds to meet road. Turn left along road and follow road which swings round to right to reach Clove Lodge Farm entrance gate Pass through to Clove Lodge camping barn, Baldersdale (GR 935 177)
Clove Lodge-Newbiggjn (GR. 915 275) Distance 8.5 Miles Ascent 1380ft
Prom West gable end of barn turn right and pass stone garage and wooden barn, which are on your left, to reach double gate. Pass through (PLEASE CLOSE) and continue down track with wall on your right for 400yds to gate Pass through and continue on track through fie[d to reach metal gate in wall. Pass through and cross over bridge and continue on track In 80 yards ignore track on your [~ to YHA and bear right on track for 30 yards to cross bridge over reservoir Ignore metal gate on left and follow track round to right for 300 yards to metal gate Pass through gate and immediately bear left at large boulder marked P.W Pass through trees for 30 yards to reach stile at cattle grid. Cross over and continue 800 yards up farm access road to main road. Turn left up road 30 yards and take stile in wall on right (Pennine Way Sign) (Next Section Boggy In Places)
Ahead uphill 400 yards with wall on right past small cairn in broken wall at top of hi!! and descend 300 yards to stream. Cross over and continue ahead with wall on right for 400 yards to stile in wall at left of wall junction. Cross over stile and bear right 20 degrees for 40 yards to stile in wall
Cross over and turn left downhill 100 yards with wall on left. Path bears right 350 degrees from wall downhill 250 yards to reach marker post.
Continue ahead downhill 342 degrees for 200 yards to stile in wall on left of gate. Cross over and continue ahead for 50 yards to stile in “all Cross over (two barns on your left) and bear right 10 degrees across field (keep in single file) for 300 yards to metal gate in wall. Pass through and continue ahead across field for 150 yards to second metal gate Pass through across field for 60 yards to third metal gate and exit on road near How Farm (GR 930 212).
Turn right along road 200 yards to cross-roads. Turn left down hill for 200 yards and cross over reservoir bridge Ascend 200 yards on road to Grassholm Farm (CR 925 216) which is on your right. turn right through farm yard, exit farm yard and turn left 10 yards then right down hill with wire fence on left. At bottom of hill continue on track for 20 yards and then turn left uphill 350
degrees to cross over stile in wall. (Barn 30 yards to right).
Cross field and pass between two stone gate posts in wall, barn is 20 yards on your left, continue downhill with wall on left to reach stream Cross planks over stream and continue uphill to stile in corner of wall. Cross over and continue ahead across field for 100 yards. At top of rise bear left 310 degrees downhill to reach gate opening (no gate) in broken wall (small barn 20 yards on your right). Pass through and bear right 360 degrees uphill 120 yards across field to stile in wall at road. Cross over road with care.
Note: The section from Wythes Hill to Holwick is complicated on faint tracks. It is recommended, especially at night, that the route description be used in conjunction with the map. It is over sensitive moorland, no short cuts over moors.
Take farm access road to Wythes Hill Farm (GR923 227). At end of barn on your right bear left down lane for 150 yards, passing cottage which is on your right. 30 yards past cottage at top of shod rise leave Pennine Way and turn left through gate in wall and continue ahead on bearing 270 degrees with wall on left for 300 yards.
When wall turns left bear half right 300 degrees away from wall downhill for 30 yards aiid cross over small stream. In 10 yards bear left 270 degrees for 120 yards to wooden gate in wall. Pass through for 20 yards then bear right 330 degrees for 50 yards. Then bear left uphill 320 degrees for 40 yards. Bear left 280 degrees for 200 yards to wooden gate in fence.
Pass through bear left 310 degrees with stream on right for 200 yards. Then bear right 352 degrees across stream and continue uphill for 120 yards passing old sheepfold which is on your right (GR 913 232). In 25 yards past sheep fold bear left 310 degrees on green track through heather, uphill for 300 yards and descend to hollow with small shelter on your right. Bear left 310 degrees up track for 200 yards to reach wall. Bear right with ‘vail on your left to gate on left (GR909239).
Pass through gate and continue on bearing 310 degrees for 500 yards to reach small depression eroded by vehicles. Cross over and bear 340 degrees up slight incline for 250 yards and then descend on same bearing 300 yards to gate in wall Pass through gate and descend 30 yards and cross over stream. Continue ahead for 600 yards on bearing 320 degrees on same contour to reach wall. Turn right 30 degrees downhill 300 yards with wall on left. Path meanders away from wall in places but comes back to reach stream.
Cross stream (no bridge) and continue for 200 yards with wall on left to reach gate (beware of
hollow on left just before gate). (GR 903 258) Pass through and descend 20 yards to stream.
Cross over (no bridge) and bear 350 degrees up rise for 30 yards and then gradually descend for
200 yards to cross stream (no bridge).
Continue ahead for 100 yards 320 degrees to stile in fence. Cross over and descend 350 degrees for 300 yards passing marker stones to reach sheepfold on right (GR 902 266) In 20 yards after passing sheepfold bear left 320 degrees and cross over stream (stepping stones) Continue for 150 yards to stile and gate in fence. (GR 901 267) Cross over and bear immediately right 20 degrees for 100 yards passing marker stones.
At second marker stone bear right 30 degrees for 5 yards and then bear left (start of gully) 350 degrees for 150 yards to reach small gate in fence. Pass through and continue ahead for 30 yards to reach rocky gully. Descend with care on rocky path through gully and cross stream. Up steep incline to meet broad track. Turn right downhill passing house which is on your right to reach wooden gate. Pass through and continue ahead. Ignore road junction off to left and continue towards Holwick Village (GR 904 270). After passing telephone box which is on your right continue on road for 60 yards and take stile in wall on your left at (GR 906 269).
Continue downhill for 30 yards to reach broad stony track, and continue ahead on bearing 40 degrees for 150 yards across field to reach stile and gate on left of barn. Cross over/pass through and continue ahead for 60 yards and then bear right 50 degrees downhill for 280 yards across field to reach wall on your right. Continue ahead with wall on right for 80 yards. Ignore stile in wall on right continue for further 50 yards to reach stile ahead in corner of wall and fence junction.
Cross over (take care river is immediately in front of you). Turn right on path 20 yards to bridge on left, cross over bridge. Bear right across field past barn and continue to footbridge over stream. Cross bridge and continue up walled path. Exit in field. Bear right across field to stile and exit with care on road. Turn right 100 yards along road to Newbiggin Village Hall (GR 915 275)
Newbiggin - Cow Green (GR 811309) Dstance 8.65 Miles Ascent 590ft
DO NOT USE ROAD B6277 TO HIGH FORCE HOTEL.
From Village Hall turn left along road for 100 yards and take stile in wall on left, Bear right across field to reach stile at walled lane Cross over and continue down lane to reach footbridge. Cross over and continue across field to pass barn which is on your right. Continue across field to reach bridge over River Tees. Cross over and turn right on riverside path (Pennine Way). You have retraced inward route. Follow Pennine Way. (The next section to High Force covers 2 miles. River Tees is always cn your right.) Ignore 2 footbridges over river at GR 904279 and GR 889 283. After second bridge bear left and go 270 degrees up stone steps and continue on track to gate with stile on right. Cross over stile and continue on track for 300 yards to reach kissing gate on left of large gate. Take care and keep to left side of path in region of high Force Waterfall. Pass through kissing gate and continue on track for further 300 yards passing between bushes to reach kissing gate near falls.
Pass through and continue on track with river on right for 400 yards to gap in wall Pass through and continue ahead with fence and river on your ri2ht to footbridge over stream at GR 874 280. Continue ahead for 400 yards to 2 further footbridges in close proximity. After second footbridge In 100 yards path crosses stream and begins to ascend hill on pave and boards over baggy area. (You have now left river). Continue uphill on path towards lea corner of fence & Path then runs between 2 fences, 20 yards apart. Keep straight uphill to crest where fences become wider apart and pass small shooting hut which is on your left Continue 50 yards to marker post

At post bear right 340 degrees to stile. Cross over stile and in 10 yards cross over stream, continue up paved path with wa[l on right to stile in wall. Cross over and turn left downhill (Take care) through rocky area to gate and stile in wall on left at bottom of gully. Pass through and turn right with wall on right to Cronkley Farm (GR 863 289). Turn left down farm access road for 300 yards and cross over river at Cronkley Bridge(GR 862 293). Turn left and continue ahead through fields, with river on left, for 100 yards to reach small gate. Pass through and continue ahead (Take Care Path Badly Eroded For 30 Yards) and continue for 350 yards to reach wire fence coming from your right Continue ahead with fence on right, for 200 yards to reach stile. Cross over and continue ahead, with wall on right for 400 yards to reach stile at Saur Bridge.
Cross over stile and turn left over bridge and in 10 yards turn right 360 degrees (NORTH) with river on your right. Continue ahead for 100 yards to stile in wail on right of gate. Cross over and continue ahead with river bank, initially close to on right. Path continues ahead through field but moves 20 yards away from dyer bank and in 200 yards starts to climb up incline. At top of climb when path levels out BEWARE STEEP DROP ON RIGHT DOWN TO RIVER
In 100 yards at top of incline when path starts to bear right down to river YOU BEAR LEFT 320 DEGREES to gate in wall. Pass through and continue ahead for 400 yards with wall on your right to reach gate in wall ahead, which is 30 yards to left of wall junction. Pass through and bear 290 degrees for 200 yards to reach gate in fence, Pass through and bear right 340 degrees for 200 yards to reach farm access road. Turn right down access road to reach small wooden gate to right of metal gate. Pass through to reach road and turn left up road over cattle grid. Continue ahead up road for 1 mile. When road turns right to Harwood Dale you continue ahead on access road for further 1.5 miles to Cow Green Reservoir car park (GR 811 309)
Cow Green - Wearhead (GR 858395) Distance 8.6 Miles Ascent 8lOft
From car park return down road for 600 yards to reach large sheepfold on left (GR 818 309).
The section from the sheepfold is over rough ground, boggy in places, with a number of old mine workings and shake holes. (Take tare).
From sheepfold turn left and walk on a bearing of 360 degrees (due north) for 0.75 miles to step stile in wall (CR 817 321), (stile is ICC yards to the left of wall corner running north east 60 degrees). Cross over stile and continue on 360 degrees for 70 yards to descend gully and cross stream Continue on same bearing for 500 yards and then descend to ladder stile over wall with gully and stream on left and gate on right of stile.
Cross over stile. Continue downhill for 250 yards with stream on your left. Bear left across stream (No Bridge) to reach gate opening in wall. Pass through and continue ahead past barns. which are on your nght to reach gate opening h wire fence (might be fitted with hurdles if sheep in field) Pass through and in 10 yards cross over undistinguished rough stone cart bridge (No parapet) 30 yards to left of barns. Continue on bearing 360 degrees for 200 yards, passing 50 yards to right of sheepfold on crest of hill Continue on same bearing down hill 200 yards to footbridge (GR 817 332). Cross over and at bottom of steps continue ahead for 100 yards with wall 15 yards on your right passing remains of Chapel and School which are on other side of wall (GR 816 333).
Turn right through gate and continue up track to reach road (Riggside House) DO NOT TAKE FOOTPATH THROUGH FIELDS TO WATERS MEETING FARM. Turn left along road for one mile passing Waters Meeting Farm on left (GR 814 337) and Herdship and Froghall Farms which are on your right. (Remember to close all gates) DO NOT TAKE PUBLIC FOOTPATH FROM FROGHALL. (Road is wavmarked with green arrows).
At (GR 805 343) tarmac road ends and becomes rough track. Take right fork up to gate. Pass through and continue on track which initially swings away from wall on right but as it climbs uphill comes back to meet wail. Ignore gate in wall and continue on track with wall on your right to gate. Pass through gate to large barn (GR 808 341) (Dalehead).
Turn right in front of barn then left along side of barn. At end of barn turn left at pole carrying power line. (Yellow footpath marker on pole). Continue ahead 50 yards to wall. Turn right bearing 60 degrees with wall on your left for 100 yards to stile at wall junction. Cross stile and keep close to wall passing gate which ~s on your right. Wall now changes to fence on your right with remains of old wall on your left, Continue between fence and broken wall for 60 yards to stile Zn fenct Cross over and continue down hill with fence on your right to footbridge. Cross over and continue uphill with stream and gully on your left. Continue 350 yards to gate in wall at road (GR 813 352).
Pass through and bear right across road to gate (take care road is busy at times especially with motor bikes). Pass though gate and continue on stony track 400 yards to gate in wall. Go through gate and immediately bear right 50 degrees at track junction and continue on track for 2.75 miles over Coldberry End and Galloway Hill. Track changes to road, rough at first and then gradually improves. Pass through gate in fence and gate in wall across road. Continue along tarmac road for 300 yards to gate on left at GR 349 384 turn left through gate on tarmac road (old Lime Kiln on your left) and continue ahead to reach small white gate on left of large white gate. Pass through small gate and descend to cross over Burnhope Reservoir dam wall.
At end of dam wall turn right and in 100 yards ignore road off to left, and bear right downhill on reservoir access road to reach water treatment works which are on your right. Pass through works and continue down road for 200 yards to reach metal gate on left, which is 30 yards before road crosses river bridge. Pass through gate and bear left across open area for 30 yards to reach wooden gate in walled [aim. Pass through and continue up lane with wall on left and river on your fight. In 100 yards ignore footbridge on right and continue ahead for 200 yards to reach Wear Villa Farm. Bear left between buildings and continue up lane to reach high wall on left. Continue up lane to reach road.
Turn right down road for 30 yards and turn left across road and up steps to Wearhead Village Hall GR 858 395
Wearhead -Rookhope (GR. 938 429) Distance 7.25 Miles Ascent 1480ft
From village hall turn left down road 70 yards (just past telephone box which is on opposite side of road). Turn fell up lane with cottages on your left for 15 yards. Turn left up lane (North) uphill with cottages on left and wall on right. (Beware of clothes line across track at last cottage). Continue ahead on grass track between walls, ignore footpath sign on your right, and continue up walled lane to small wooden gate to left of large gate. Pass through and continue ahead for 100 yards to iron gate.
Pass through, wall is on left, immediately bear diagonally right uphill 360 degrees to meet wall on right. (take care steep slope on left). Continue ahead with wall on right. In 200 yards when wall turns right, follow wail round to right to gate on right.. Pass through and enter field for 10 yards (to avoid remains of building foundations on left). Turn left on bearing 50 degrees for 60 yards across field to reach gate in wall 20 yards to right of wall junction. Pass through to road and turn left down road for 80 yards to reach walled lane on right (GR 857 403).
Turn right up lane to reach cattle grid. Cross over and continue ahead up lane to reach garage ahead at Queensbury Farm (GR 859406). Pass to right around garage and continue ahead up reed covered lane with broken wall on your left and wall on right to metal gate in wall. Pass through and continue ahead with wall on your right. Keep as near wall as possible to avoid boggy areas and old mine workings for 400 yards ignoring gate openings in wall. When wall turns sharp right follow round for 30 yards to wooden gate in wall on broad track. (GR 864409).
Pass through gate and continue ahead uphill on broad track for 500 yards to gate. Pass through (in daylight take time to admire the view all around you) and continue for 900 yards to sheepfold on left. Pass through double gate and continue ahead for 500 yards to gate. Pass through and continue ahead for 350 yards passing between Fir trees to road (CR 884 405). Continue ahead down hill on road for 1100 yards. Road turns left downhill then uphill. Road then turns right steeply uphill. Continue ahead 1500 yards to road junction on right, Scarsike Head, (GR 911413) (Signpost Rookhope 2.5 miles Allenheads 8 miles on left).
Turn right for 900 yards down road to track on Hell between walls at (GM 912 405). Turn left 60 degrees up track to gate. Pass through and continue up track. At end of track bear 70 degrees passing remains of old railway wagon, which is on your left. Continue over rough moor on this bearing for 700 yards to reach gate at junction of wall on left and wire fence on right
(GR921 411). Over Next Section There Could Possibly Be No Stiles And You Will Have To Climb Over Wooden Barriers, Where There Are No Gates.
Continue ahead down hill over rough moor land with wa1l on your left for 600 yards and cross over wooden fence in wire fence. Continue downhill with wall on left for 600 yards to iron gate in fence. Pass through and continue downhill with wall on left for 300 yards to pass through broken wire fence. Continue ahead for 350 yards with wall on left and cross over drainage ditch near wall. Continue ahead for 5 yards and cross over wooden fence. Continue with wall on left for 60 yards where wall ends at wire fence around small reservoir on left. Keep fence on your left for 20 yards then bear right away from fence to avoid pool and cross over water channel.
After crossing water channel bear left back to wire fence and continue for 10 yards with wire fence on your left to wooden fence. Cross over wooden fence and keep wire fence around reservoir on your left for 20 yards. Turn right 60 degrees with wooden fence on your left down short steep tnc[ine for 5 yards to wall on your left. Continue ahead with wall on left. After 50 yards when wall turns left continue ahead 50 degrees for 400 yards passing small stone building which is 30 yards on your right and steeply descend over rough ground to ladder stile over wire fence. Cross over and continue ahead on gravel track passing corrugated building which is on your right. Continue down lane and cross over bridge to reach tarmac road. Turn left along road 30 yards to Rookhope Village Hall car park (GR 938 429)
Rookhone - Blanchlaud (GR. 965 503) Distance 5.75 Miles Ascent 660ft.
Return to road and turn right along road passing Inn which is on your right and take track on left at (CR 939 429) opposite Post Office, signposted Lead Min[ng Trail and C2C (Coast To Coast Cycle Track - Beware of cyclists). Follow track uphill signposted C2C or marked C2C on white stone to reach metal gate on to moor. Track climbs steadily uphill on old railway line for 1300 yards passing corrugated iron shelter which is on your left.
At top of incline track enters rocky cutting. Continue ahead past disused Winding House which is on your left. Pass grouse butts which are on your right at end of cutting. Continue along track for 600 yards to reach large stone and metal sheep fold which is 10 yards on your right (GR 953 450).
Immediately turn left on bearing 340 degrees across moor passing Lead Mining Marker Post to reach wire fence in 200 yards. Do not cross stile ahead in fence but turn left uphill for 300 yards with fence on your right to reach fence junction. Turn right over stile. Follow fence which is now on your left for 70 yards to stile on left Cross over and turn right with fence now on your right for 30 yards to reach Bolts Law Trig Point (GR 950 454)
Retrace steps 30 yards to stile, cross over and turn left for 70 yards with fence on left. Bear right downhill 40 degrees on faint track for 400 yards. Bear left 340 degrees for 250 yards (no obvious path through heather) to reach gate in fence. Pass through and continue on same 340 degrees bearing down over field (faint track over rough ground for 200 yards). Bear right 40 degrees for 100 yards (large ditch 20 yards on your left) to reach timber footbridge, with handrails, over ditch. Cross over footbridge to reach fence in 10 yards (ELECTRIFIED). Cross stile in fence and bear 315 degrees down field 250 yards to stile over second ELECTRIFIED fence. Cross over stile then bear 330 degrees 200 yards to sdle, which is 40 yards to right of fence junction.
Cross over into old mine workings and immediately bear right 20 degrees over spoil heaps for 60 yards downhill (Take Care) towards disused mine building. Pass building which is on your right and fo]low quarry access road with Bolts Burn on your right. Pass through quarry gates and ignore track on left and continue ahead passing cottages to reach main road. At road junction take right fork signposted Stanhone, Blanchland C2C and continue along road for 400 yards passing “The Mill” which is on your left and cross road bridge over Bolts Burn which is now on your left. Continue on road for 980 yards to reach small lay-by on left Continue for further 15 yards to reach track on left at (GR 958 482).
Turn left down track and pass through gate and continue with wire fence on your right which in 30 yards changes to stone wail. At end of wall turn right at footpath marker on left and footpath sign on right bearing 20 degrees. Follow path through wood with wall on right and Bolts Burn on your left for 250 yards. At end of wall continue ahead through wood for 400 yards to track junction. Bear right up higher track through boggy section of path for 300 yards to reach broad track with Waymarker on left (GR 957 491). Turn right and follow track for 600 yards round to gate and exit on road.
Turn left down road and continue ahead downhill to road sign Bay Bridge. (DO NOT CROSS RIVER). At bottom of hill just before road comes in from left, take signposted path on right opposite junction. Pass through gate and continue ahead with river on left. Follow path through
woods to gate. Pass through and continue ahead passing houses which are on your right to reach road. Turn left down road and cross over road bridge to enter County of Northumberland.
Continue ahead crossing over square and under arch. Turn left at cross roads for 100 yards passing telephone box and police station to reach Blanchland Viflage Sports Hall on your left (GR:965 503)
Blanchland - Edmundbyers (GR:0165001 Distance 4.75 Miles Ascent 660ft)
From Blanchland Village Sports Hall immediately turn left and pass between sports hail and tennis courts around gable end of hail. Turn right with garden wall on right and stream on left for 50 yards to reach footbridge on left. Turn left and cross footbridge. Bear left across grass area to exit on road. Turn right to reach road bridge. Cross over bridge back into County Durham, Land Of The Prince Bishops, and continue ahead uphill for 100 yards on road to road junction on right (GR 967 502). Turn right on minor road and continue uphill for 400 yards passing Rone Barn Farm which is on your lefl to reach sharp right hand bend in road at (CR 968 496).
Continue ahead through gate into field at Public Bridle sign. Continue up field with wall on your left. At end of wall continue uphill with wire fence on your left to reach wooden gate in wall. Pass through and continue ahead on broad stone track to gate. Pass through and continue ahead uphill. As track descends ignore track off to right and continue ahead to reach small wooden gate on your left with yellow Lead Mining Marker on gate post at track junction (GR 971 481) Buckshott Fell
Pass through gate bearing 80 degrees and continue ahead on broad track for 800 yards to reach small gate. Pass through and turn left. En 15 yards path becomes less distinct but continue on bearing of 50 degrees on faint track over Moor for 250 yards. Track now bears 80 degrees slightly uphill with wire fence 20 yards to your left. Continue for 250 yards to iron gate at fence and wall junction (CR 985 489). Pass through and continue ahead on bearing of 40 degrees over open moor for 200 yards. Bearing now changes to 70 degrees on reasonable track as you descend. In 30 yards track levels out follow track for 0.75 miles, cross over stream Swandale Burn (GR 997 496) and in 250 yards pass corner of wall junction which is on your left.
Continue ahead on broad track with wall 20 yards on your left. In 400 yards track bears right, away from wall and in 50 yards at cross tracks junction continue ahead downhill for 500 yards where track swings left to meet wall on right. Keep wall on right then turn right to cross ford over Black Burn. Continue to metal gate (GR 008 501). Pass through and continue ahead with wall on your right for 400 yards to reach cottages on your lefl. Continue for a further 20 yards to reach main road. Immediately turn right downhill on minor road for 60 yards to road junction on your lefi. Turn left along road for 140 yards to reach check point in lane outside Edmundbyers Village Hall (GR 016500)
Edmundbyers - Waskerley (GR. 050467) Distance 3.75 Miles Ascent 690ft.)
From village hail turn left to reach main road coming from your right. Cross over and turn left up road for 100 yards passing Youth Hostel (GR 108 501) which is on your right. Just past YH. turn right through gate passing caravan site which is on your right, to reach small gate. Pass through and descend 150 yards to reach boggy area. Bear right 180 degrees to reach footbridge over stream. Cross over and bear left 190 degrees uphill for 80 yards to reach ladder stile over wall. (Stile is 40 yards to left of power pole).
Cross over stile and turn right 10 yards then immediately left to cross planks over stream. Continue ahead uphill on steps with stream on left (Bearing 180 degrees) for 100 yards to reach second set of planks over stream and sti[e in wire fence. Cross over stile. Immediate[y turn left and cross over third set of planks over stream, then immediately turn right with bushes on left for 60 yards to reach stile in wall, which is 30 yards to left of West Cot House Farm (GR 021 495), i.e. farm is on your right.
Cross over stile to reach road. Turn left up road and cross over cattle grid. In 100 yards reach East Cot House Farm (GR 022 495), which is on your left. From East Cot House Farm at black barn on left turn right up Moor (no obvious path) with, initially wire fence and then, wall on your immediate right for 300 yards to reach farm access road Cross over road and continue ahead uphill with wall on your right, keep close to, or near, wall as track is rough in some places and non existent in others, to reach water channel Cross over water channel, close to wall.
Over next section track is often indistinct but wall is always on your right.
Continue ahead for 100 yards to reach green track in heather. Bear right 170 degrees with wall on right to reach small corrugated building, which is on your right (Lamb Shield Farm (GR 024 489) is over wall). Bear left 120 degrees for 20 yards then bear right and continue ahead with wall 15 yards on your right for 600 yards to reach reeded area (track now indistinct). Path becomes more distinct after passing through reeded area. In 150 yards leave distinct track and bear right 160 degrees towards wall, which is 20 yards on your right, and cross cart bridge over water channel. Continue towards wall and pass through wooden access point in wire fence (you may have to climb over this). Continue ahead with wall on ‘our right for 100 yards. When wall turns sharp right bear left 170 degrees to reach wire fence in 60 yards.
Continue ahead with wire fence on your right bearing 140 degrees for 600 yards to reach wooden Access Point (You may have to climb over this). Immediately turn left with wire fence on your left for 30 yards and cross over remains of wall. Continue for a further 5 yards with wire fence on left then turn right 140 degrees and continue ahead with remains of wire fence on your right for 100 yards to reach wall on your right.
Continue ahead with wall on your right for 20 yards to reach small wooden fence at junction of wire fence with wall. Cross over (take care) and continue ahead with wall on right. Ignore two metal gates in wall on right and continue ahead downhill to reach wooden Access Point at junction of wire fence and wall. Cross over (take care) and continue ahead downhill with wall on right. Ignore small wooden gate in wall and in 100 yards reach metal gate in wall at track junction (GR 038 475).
Turn left 40 degrees on faint left hand track across field for 120 yards to reach track through Gorse bushes. Continue ahead to reach pile of large stones (builders rubble). Cross over/around stones and continue ahead passing tree which is on your left and continue on bearing 36 degrees for 60 yards to cross over stream. Continue ahead for further 50 yards and bear right 124 degrees
down hill on broad track with stream in gully on your right for 50 yards. Follow track round to left for 10 yards and bear right away from track 105 degrees across field and between trees for 60 yards to reach broad track. Turn right down track for 40 yards to reach gate. Pass through and turn right for 10 yards to footbridge GR 042 478 on your left.
Cross over and bear right uphill on broad track 200 yards to reach gate on left of deserted farm but[dings. Pass through gate and bear right 20 yards to reach opening in fence with single stone gate post, which is on your right. Pass through and in 20 yards at green track Y junction bear left 170 degrees uphill on green track for 150 yards passing knoll which is on your left. When opposite knoll bear left 120 degrees for 130 yards to reach gate in wall 10 yards to right of wall and fence junction.
Pass through and continue ahead on bearing 140 degrees for 120 yards with fence 10 yards to your left. When fence turns left bear 130 degrees on faint track across moor for 30 yards then bear 100 degrees for 20 yards on faint track. Bear right 125 degrees for 20 yards to cross over boggy area. Bear left uphill for 15 yards then follow track in grass as it meanders uphill right and left for 200 yards to reach fence which is on left at top of hill at water treatment work-s. Pass between corner offence, which is on your left, and wooden power pole, which is on your right, and continue on bearing 125 degrees for 60 yards to reach road. Turn right up road to Moorcock Inn, Waskerley GR 050 467.
Moorcock Inn Waskerlev - Wcatherhill Ouarry Distance 4.75 miles Ascent 38 (GR. 998 424)
Up road 15 yards and turn right on green track at end of Inn bearing 260 degrees for 220 yards to Y track junction. Bear left 200 degrees on distinct track for 250 yards (passing remains of old railway wagon, which is on your right) to reach end of dam wall, which is on your right. Continue ahead 220 degrees across parking area for 20 yards to reach stone track.
Continue up track passing stone building, which is on your led, and Smiddy Shaw Reservoir, which is on your right. Continue up track for 100 yards with metal posts, which are on your left, to reach track junction. Cross over and con6niie ahead on broad green track through heather for 400 yards to reach road.
Cross over with care and continue ahead up the stone track for 200 yards to reach track bed of old railway at T junction (CR 043 454). Turn right (WEST) up railway (Coast To Coast cycle track, beware of mad cyclists!) for 1200 yards to meet tarmac access road. Cross over road to enter small car park. Cross directly over car park, past metal barrier, and continue ahead on railway track bed to reach wooden gate. Pass through (after 200 yards Waskerley Reservoir comes into view on your left and half left across valley Collier Law Mast, but only in clear visibility and in daylight).
Continue ahead on railway track bed for 800 yards to cross roads. Continue ahead on railway track bed (which begins to swing south) for 1.5 miles to reach metal gate. Pass through and
continue ahead passing, WITH EXTREME CAUTION, between quarry buildings. Continue ahead for 900 yards to check point GR 998424.
Weatherhill Quarry - Frosterley (GR. 035 369) Distance 5.25 Miles Ascent 230ft.
From check point retrace route for 60 yards and turn right up stone track (notice “Private - No Access”) with black and white snow posts on right for 800 yards. At V junction bear right on track still with snow posts on your right and continue for I mile to Collier Law radio mast, (GR 016 418). At mast keep to right of compound metal fence. When compound fence turns left continue ahead on faint track through heather for 15 yards to wire fence (GR 017 418) with trig point over fence. (Do not cross fence).
Turn right on bearing of 130 degrees for 65 yards with fence on your left to small cairn in fence junction. Continue down hill on bearing of 150 degrees with fence on lea for 60 yards to reach gate in fence. Turn right 260 degrees away from gate on track for 200 yards to reach track junction. Turn left 150 degrees on track through heather for 220 yards to reach Y junction. Bear left for 700 yards back towards fence to reach gate at fence junction. Pass through gate and continue ahead on broad track with fence on your right for 1000 yards passing over round hill which is on your left (Fatherley Hill Currick.).
Note In poor visibility or at night you could heather bash, from this gate keeping fence on your left for 900 yards to reach gate at fence junction.
Continue ahead on track for 400 yards to reach walk Continue down hill with wa[[ on your right for 150 yards to metal gate in wall (GR 021 395). Pass through gate. (Radio mast is on your right). Continue down steep hill on tarmac access road for 0.75 miles (Ensure all gates are closed
- sheep in fields) to reach main road. (Caution Take Care). Cross over road and turn left on roadside footpath to reach Frosterlev Village. Continue through village for I mile to reach haulage depot on right on Eastern outskirts of village GR 035369
Frosterley - Wolsingham (GR. 078 373) Distance 3.0 Miles Ascent 5Oft
DO NOT CONTINUE ALONG MAIN ROAD but turn right and cross road bridge over river.
Immediately after crossing bridge turn left on path through Odd after 20 yards path bears 130 degrees right away from river. Continue for 250 yards across fields to meet wall. Continue ahead with wall on right to footbridge. Cross over and continue ahead with wail and railway line on your right. After 50 yards path runs parallel with river on your left. Continue on riverside path for 300 yards to reach caravan park on right.
Continue ahead on riverside path through caravan park with caravans on right to meet tarmac road. Continue ahead on tarmac road for 10 yards and then bear right on tarmac road and continue ahead past caravan reception and shop which are on your right. Exit caravan park at GR 047 368. Turn left along tarmac access road for 800 yards with river on jell and railway line on right.
When access road turns left across bridge over river you continue ahead past footpath sign and lamppost on your right with river on your left and railway line on your right. Pass through small metal gate with care as river is immediately on your left. In 60 yards footpath bears right and crosses over narrow bridge. After crossing bridge bear left and continue ahead with fence and railway on your right. After 10 yards fence changes to a wall. Continue ahead though fields with wall on your right for 500 yards to reach and pass through white gate with metal kissing gate on right. Continue ahead with wall then wood fence and then wire fence on your right for 600 yards to footbridge (GR 069 368).
Cross bridge and continue ahead for 400 yards with fence on your right. Do not continue towards small white wooden gate 200 yards ahead but bear right up slight incline between hawthorn bushes and fence to small wooden gate adjacent to railway line. Pass through and continue ahead with river and wood on left and wire fence and railway line on your right for 150 yards to steps up to
road (GR 074 368) TAKE CARE.
Turn left 30 yards to bridge and turn left. Cross over bridge on footpath on right hand parapet. At end of bridge turn sharp right and follow riverside path (cottages on left and river on right) to reach caravan park. Pass through metal gate and cross through park on tarmac path. Exit at cottage and turn left up gravel drive to reach main road. Turn right along main road for 50 yards to reach parish hall GR 078373
