PAINE FAMILY TREE

BENJAMIN PAINE  (1700-    )

Came to Holbrok,Ma. from what is now Braintree, Ma. He purchased a piece of land in Holbrook containing about  37 1/2 acres, east of the Cochato river, from John Thayer about the year 1725.
His house was situated on the present corner of Union and Water Streets where the Greenhatch >residence is now located.
It is said that Benjamin Paine was impressed into His Majesty's Service in an expedition against Cape Breton, Canada, in 1745.
He and his wife Elizabeth (daughter of Thomas Copeland) had six children.

LIEUT. NATHANIEL PAINE (1727-1781)


Son of Benjamin and Elizabeth, resided on the homestead of his father to which he made considerable additions by purchases of land.
He was a soldier for a short time in the French and Indian War and was a lieutanant in a minute man company at the start of the Revolutionary War.
He and his wife Hannah (daughter of Joseph Wales) hade five children.

BENJAMIN PAINE (1759-1823)
Son of Nathanial and Hannah, was a farmer and mill owner, and resided in a house destroyed by fire in1876.
He saw considerable service in the Revolutionary war, part of which was as an artillerist in the Continental Army.
Later he received a cut on one of his limbs which made amputation neccessary, after which his occupation was shoe making.
He and his wife Mary (daughter of Micah Thayer) had six children.
One of these was:

BENJAMIN PAINE (1785-1867)
Benjamin was a cordwainer by trade and was an ensign in the East Randolf militia company.
He lived in a house which still stands opposite the Union Cemetary at 180 Union Street, Holbrook, Ma.
He was the father of the following:

WILLIAM (1810-1867).
GEORGE W. (1814-1894).
BENJAMIN (1816-1885)

ROYAL (1821-1893) who fathered:

ROYAL W. (1865-1938)
who fathered:

ROYAL LELAND (1899-1966)
who fathered me:

ROBERT LELAND (1924-    )

I seek the 1st Benjamin. I wonder if he went to Canada or to the French-Indian wars.
He never returned to Holbrook, Ma.
