She went on to live in Hasbrouck Hgts, NJ. Any information about her would be greatly appreciated. Hello my dear cousins and/or friends, I am looking for the elusive proof for descendants of Jonathan Paine (b. 26 Mar 1739 at Harwich, Barnstable, MA and noted in Mayflower Families, Vol. 6 [Stephen Hopkins]) and his wife, Rebeckah Clark (b. 30 August 1738 according to the IGI). They were married 1 March 1766 in Harwich (per Harwich Vital Records). According to the Harwich VR, they had a son named Abijah. (Vital Records of Harwich, page 131: "Abijah Pain, Son of Jonathan & Rebecca pain his wife born march 18 1771") My ancestral line presumably comes from this Jonathan Paine's son, Abijah, but I lack definitive proof. Here is what I have: Abijah Smithy Paine, who is proven with solid evidence to be my ancestor, was born 1806 (sources: 1860 census, his gravestone in East Oxford Maine and the IGI). The IGI records list his birth to Abijah Paine and "Hannah." (Yes, I realize the IGI is not an acceptable source, but it is always a starting point for finding acceptable sources.) Abijah, the assumed father of Abijah Smithy, is shown in the History of Paris, Maine, to have been in Sumner, Oxford, Maine in 1796. It is easily assumed, therefore, that he was the Abijah Paine who had a son, Abijah Smith Paine in Sumner in 1806. "PETER CHASE of Sutton bought of Abijah Paine of Sumner, March 6, 1799, part of 21 in the 7th." [History of Paris Oxford County Maine, p. 42]. In the same book, same page, is this: "ABIJAH PAINE of Paris, bought of Jonathan Bemis, Feb. 11, 1796, lots 21 and 22, in the 5th range. " This would seem to indicate that he was in Paris in 1795-1796 - if this is the same Abijah Paine. That the father, Abijah Paine, husband of "Hannah" is the son of Jonathan Paine and Rebeckah Clark bearing that name is likely because of the names of his children and grandchildren. Abijah and Hannah's son, Abijah Smithy Paine, had a first son named Samuel Clark Paine. That his first son is named Samuel CLARK Paine is likely in honor of his grandmother, Rebeckah Clark. That he used the surnames of his ancestors for middle names of his children continues with Abner Reed (or Read) Paine, named after Hannah Read, his mother. (Proof has not been found that her name was Read, but family tradition and records have given her this name for generations.) Abijah Merrill Paine is named after his mother's mother, Hannah Merrill. Abijah Paine (senior) also had a son, Samuel Clark Paine and two children bearing the middle name, Read. Thus, the naming convention points to the likely occurrence of a Clark in the family. This is probably Rebeckah Clark who married Jonathan Paine. Can anyone help find definitive proof of this relationship? I would be MOST grateful! Blessings, Father John Haldane Father_John@hotmail.com

Hello, Did not have any idea it would be this hard trying to locate family members. My father,Charles Everett Paine b.1910 in W.Groton,MA to Charlotte Irene(Cook)Paine and James William Paine. James I think was born in Dorchester,MA in 1881 and Charlotte born in Whitman,MA in 1885(of last two names, places and dates are not 100% sure of ) Boston Archives have not been totally helpful cause of dates not being exact. Charlotte's parents may have been, Henry F. Cook and Emma L. Rickard. Anyone knowing any thing along these lines of dates and names any help would be so appreciated. Also my grandfather James William Paine may have been institutionalized at Foxboro State Hosp. in MA.

My great grandfather was William Vivalda Paine, born 20 December 1861 at Bordentown NJ, died October 192? at Wilder or South Strafford VT. His father, William, was born at sea between England and the U.S., believed to be in the 1840's. His father, William, crossed the Atlantic twice, perhaps between 1830/35 and 1855. It is not known on which trip the younger William was born, nor where they came through immigration. William Vivalda married Sarah White, 23 Feb 1863-Jan. 1939, on 7 May 1884. They had eight children: Albert, Charles Norris (my grandfather), Clarence, William, Anna, Etta, Florence and Cora. Any information or connections will be appreciated. I'll be happy to exchange information on our direct lines. Robert Paine
