Researching GEORGE PAINE who appeared in 1810 US Census in Camden, Kent Co. Delaware. Married to Amelia (surname unknown), who I believe was widowed before 1820. Amelia later married John NORRIS. Children of George and AMELIA PAINE believed to include CATHARINE PAINE WEBSTER and ANN PAINE PALMER. This may be the same George Paine who served in the War of 1812 in 5th Regiment of the Delaware Militia.

Frank Miles <milesmorn@bigpond.com.au>
My name is Frank Miles.I am an elderly Australian. My maternal grandfather,Arthur John Paine, was born at Witchford, Cambridgeshire,in 1863, the second child of John and Emma(Baker) Paine.I believe that John Paine was the son of Porter and Annie(Lunnis)Paine. Ihave a photograph of John Paine's family taken in 1882.There are 7 children and of these I can identify James Ulysses(b1861),Arthur John(b1863), Harriet Annie(b1875)and Susan(b1881 or 1882)The other 3 children are boys, aged perhaps 15 to 8. From her appearance and the range of ages of the children,it seems possible that the mother in the photograph waqs John's second wife. Arthur and James Came to Australia somewhere between 1882 and 1894.Their uncle Ulysses Paine had settled in the western district of Victoria sometime previously.Arthur married in 1894.His wife,my grandmother, died in 1903,leaving 5 young children.his sister Harriet came to Australia to care for them but she was in poor health and was not able to do so.She died in 1906. John Paine may have been a farmer and perhaps his sons emigrated because his farm was not big enough to support them all.I have a photograph of a farmhouse identified as Swards End Farm,Saffron Walden,1903,with a note saying"Dads old home". I know that Susan married and had a daughter named Dorothy. I would appreciate any infomation regarding the English or other members and would be glad to pass on what I know of the Australian branches.

While researching my husband's family- I found an old Bible page for Marriages that gives the name of Miss Mary Shackeford-b. June, 1854- died 1910- it is a very touching note written by Oler Payne- the bottom of the page mentions a Maggie Leeoner Payne- who apparently married a McMullen- possibly Thomas Finch McMullen- anyway Maggie gave birth to a son- Grover Cleveland McMullen in 1904- according to this page- can anyone help me shed some light on who these Payne's are? I think Maggie may be my husband's grandfather's first wife- but can't be sure of it. Any help would be appreciated... Thank you.

PAYNE/PAINE I would like to make contact with any of the descendants of the PAYNE/PAINE family of Great Addington, NTH, ENG. This is as far as I have got back at the moment. On 29th March, 1813 Joseph PAYNE/PAINE c1762-1839 widower (possibly from Thrapston, NTH, ENG) married Jane ROWE c1784-1850. Their children were: Joseph bn c1813; Benjamin bn c1815; Ann c1821-1841; James bn & d 1823; William bn & d 1823; James c1825-1888 m 1848 Harriet BEEBY c1831-1897; Eliza c1827-1829. The surname in the official records varies between PAINE and PAYNE often for the same child. Some of their descendants were still in Great Addington at least up to 1914 when David PAYNE was the landlord of the "Hare and Hounds" and possibly as late as 1943 when he died.

Hi, My name is Bruce Paine and I am seeking anything about a Benjamin Paine who married a daughter of William Overton Winston (1804-1871) of Valley Head, Alabama. Of all the children of Benjamin Paine, I know of a Lucy Winston Anderson and a William Overton Winston Paine (1864-1917) also of Valley Head. William Overton Winston Paine married (May 25, 1887) Josephine Small (1866-1946) of Collinsville, Alabama and produced 5 children including my fraternal grandfather William Overton Paine. What I'm seeking is information on Benjamin Paine my fraternal great-great-grandfather, regarding where he came from (his parents, his birthdate and date of death, where he was born, and whatever he is known to have done or accomplished). Since one of his grandsons was named Benjamin Franklin Paine (1891-1975) born in Valley Head, this gggrandfather might also be a Benjamin Franklin Paine. What I am ultimately interested in is, tracing the Paine name in my family back to the originating home country (which I assume is England, since most of the Paines seem to originate from there). I'm a Paine who is a second generation Californian, but who resides in Boston, MA. Thank you, very much. Bruce Paine
