The Rolls Royce Drawing
There is a story on how this drawing came to be drawn. It appears that Pat was requested to draw the famous fighting Cocks Inn' for the 'Motor' magazine.
The work was, as usual, delivered on time from Pear Tree Farm, the only problem was that Pat had included a bicycle in the composition.
The drawing was returned to him with a polite request to redraw, this time to include a motorcar. It seems the editor was unaware of Pat's aversion to cars and his dislike of being asked to re-draw anything. However, Pat promptly returned the amended drawing as requested the only problem was he had drawn a beautiful picture of a Rolls Royce on a separate piece of card and stuck it over the bicycle. He was never again asked to re-submit a drawing by Temple Press!
By some strange twist of fate, this was to be the best drawing of a motorcar he ever produced. Was he perhaps, trying to tell the editor that he was capable of producing a splendid drawing of a motorcar, when he Patterson wanted to?
Under the drawing mount was found an inscription in his own hand:
Once 'Ye Olde Round House' and believed to be 1000 years old. The oldest licensed house in England. Feb 22 1922
