Pat started his commercial career, illustrating furniture in particular for ‘The Book of the Home’. He notably received a commission from furniture businessman Sir John Maple who had asked him to supply a sketch of his chief showroom, but stipulated that all four sides of the room should be shown in the sketch. Pat told Sir John in no uncertain way of his ignorance of the request.
Pat did not get any more commissions from Sir John!
