Ilfracombe Walkers chocolate emporium,, Damien Hirst, 11 the quay, Welcome to Wellington's Retreat, a charming listed Georgian building, ideally positioned right in the 'Heart of Old Ilfracombe'. Standing on the upper terrace of picturesque Fore Street, this deceptively bijou coastal house lies just 200 yards from the harbour and 75 yards from local shops, pubs and cafés. The house was built in 1820 to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo and is featured on many of the early sketches, watercolours and lithographs of Old Ilfracombe dotted in and around the town. Retaining many of the original features such as polished floor boards, leaded sash windows and an enclosed south-facing terraced garden (perfect for dining), not to mention a few later additions including a 'flying' toilet (suspended 30ft above the ground), this quirky coastal house offers unique appeal to those seeking an alternative to the norm in Ilfracombe. A limited number of bedrooms mean we can deliver a personal, friendly and informal service, whilst maintaining a high degree of quality and privacy. Our rooms are as individual as our guests, whether you travel alone or as a couple, and the choice of late check out and breakfast at the guest's convenience comes as standard. Wellington's fine dining restaurant is available to guests and the general public on a reservation-only basis. Chef's style is relaxed, eclectic and offers an intimate and gastronomically exciting journey across the Empire. |
