On Monday night I did a hour's
hard paddle in my little kayak; on Tuesday a complicated bike ride
to and from work, totaling 3 1/2 hours; on Wednesday running 15x300m.
By Thursday I had that exquisite tiredness in the muscles that comes
from unaccustomed amounts or types of training. Wonderful.
The rest of the gang have
been staying at the British Olympic Training Centre at Lofer, and
training at Ruhpolding for the last couple of weeks - the wettest
in recorded history. One day was so wet they couldn't even get out
of the centre. So London is not so bad.

In
Northumberland for the weekend; went to a village fete on Saturday
and found there was a little fell race going on. Entered it and
ran, in walking boots, trousers and chequed shirt, with a belly
full of bacon and sausages... and won! My first ever running victory,
perhaps it's a tactical breakthrough.
