| Artist: Lenny Kravitz Title: Again Following up the rocking hits Fly Away and American Woman this is a mellow acoustic tune from the Kravmeister. A tad country, and from the Travis school of slightly plodding melodic niceness that is dangerously close to what your mum would like. Even the trademark Kravitz guitar solo tapers off before your Granny would get offended. The slightly off-key chords that support the verses are about the only dangerous thing about Again and we are left wondering whether it's a girl he will 'ever see again' or his youthful rock 'n' roll energy. | Artist: Toploader Title: Dancin' in the Moonlight A re-release of Toploader's answer to Van Morrison's Moondance and it's still just as catchy. You all know it, the plinky organ at the beginning, Joe singing 'we get it on most every night' and the general smile-inducing, happy-go-lucky vibe... The fans love it so much they want a chance to make it a Top 10 single as well as have the opportunity to own some stonking re-mixes. With this in mind the single comes with a beefy bassline remix from Stargate which is excellent plus a house choon version from Alliance DC which, erm, isn't. It's the live version though that is worth the asking price as the raw sound gives the song a less cheesy edge and sees it eventually dissolve into an incredibly intoxicating clap-a-long atmosphere. All together now, 'dancin' in the moooonlight ...' Courtesy of worldpop.com |
| Artist: Wu-Tang Clan Title: Gravel Pit Clantastic. In a week where citizens of the United States have struggled to elect the lesser of two lamebrains as their next leader, thanks heavens for the Wu, back to restore our faith in nutty America. In case you're wondering, The Wu-Tang are a group of 852 rap mentalists whose life is one big merry-go-round of dope beats, kung-fu imagery and running away from drug rehabilitation centres. As for the song, it's by far the poppiest and most upbeat thing they've ever done - a mix of crazy cartoon effects, daft samples, irrelevant shout-outs, amazing lyrical flow and a chorus where random foxy lady implores us to, 'Check out my gravel pit.' Don't mind if we do. According to Method Man in verse one, 'Wu-Tang are the best thing since Clarks Wallabees,' and who are we to argue? Wu-Tang for President, that's what we say!
