 Gestalt as 'a practice'

GSW has a commitment to Gestalt, as a practice and a way of being in the world. We believe that the practice of Gestalt :

  • develops awareness and communication
  • increases the range and quality of life choices
  • releases blocked energy and creativity
  • empowers people to find their own intrinsic wisdom
  • encourages responsibility for self and environmental support
GSW values in the training programme The training programmes offered by GSW reflect the value held that Gestalt is a practice and the courses and events are not solely about preparing people to take a Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy (accredited by the Gestalt Psychotherapy Training Institute [GPTI]) although that is an important aspect of them. They provide opportunities for those who may want to spend time applying Gestalt principles to their present work and life and do not want to train to become a psychotherapist.
Values in the structure of Gestalt South West

It is seen as important and vital to the life of GSW that members are influential in its organization and direction. Formerly there was a committee who ran the organisation on behalf of members. Now we are using a lighter weight and more equal arrangement whereby members communicate over decisions through email.

Individuals who share our values can join GSW by paying the annual fee (currently £10 or £15 if formal commun ications are required by post rather than email).
