The following files are in comma delimited text format so that details can be imported into nearly all databases used by the several platforms currently in use. The data is best imported into a database so that searches can be performed more easily.
It must be emphasised that the accuracy of these records has not been established and as such they are made available for guidance purposes only. The date system used in all the following database files is set on the European method namely Date-Month-Year.
The births index shows the names of individuals along with dates and place of birth plus the names of parents. Not all fields hold data and where this is blank the information is not known.
I have attempted to show dates of birth so as to make the data more meaningful and easier to search and use. Where a date is unknown I have shown this as being on 1st January of the appropriate year. In some instances I have made a best effort to guess the year in which case I have indicated this by inserting a * in the Note field. I again thought it would be useful to include some date rather than none at all.

Census data often provides excellent evidence useful when tracing our ancestors as these records show ages and where ancestors were born. The index now being developed provides details of US census records in selected years. The fields used allow for entries in several census years and each individual is given an identification number plus a family number so as to make it easy to show family groups.
I have again shown a date of birth normally showing this as 1st January and by using the age given in the census to determine the year of birth. Where the wife of an individual is listed space has been left for her maiden name to be included but where unknown the entry 'n.' has been added to indicate she is not a Lawson by birth.
It should be accepted that data may not be accurate since some people gave wrong ages to the enumerator but again some indication of the date of birth is much better than none. It should also be remembered that the first name sometimes given was not the actual first name of an individual and that this was sometimes found to be a 'pet' name by which that person was better known.
