British Records Held in the Lawson One Name Study

The list of records below are computerised and held within several different database files, all of which are made freely available to researchers of the Lawson name. Those with links are now downloadable directly from this page so that you can have easy access to a large number of records by simply clicking on the appropriate link and downloading the file.

The addition of further records is taking place constantly and whilst this page will be updated periodically additional data may be available so do please enquire. I have omitted several personal notes from most of the files such as the names of other researchers sharing an interest in individuals. I am always able to put you in contact with fellow researchers so ask if anyone else shares an interest in your family line.

It is advisable to recheck any specific entry within the indexes as sometimes poor film quality was encountered making reading difficult. The indexes available are in text format so as to be usable with any computer but these could easily be converted back into database format as tabs are included as field delimiters.

Where specific dates are unknown dates for civil registrations are shown as 1st of March, June, September and December to denote the quarter in which registration occurred. I would welcome additional information on any of the entries within these indexes such as full dates, places, parents and spouses.

Please do let me have details of any Lawson records you may have of your own family lines so that I can update the records I keep. The files are in comma delimited text format so that they can be easily imported into almost any database and whilst the original databases are held on an IBM compatible PC these files should be compatible with different computer formats.

  Due to copyright constraints it is not permissible to distribute the various I.G.I. databases here but I am able to make parts of these available to individual researchers upon specific request for data.

Other Records

• British Census Database (679kb) Extensive database of British census details (over 22,000 people) 1841 - 1891. This database has fields for each census year with the appropriate address of each person where known at this stage. Individulas have an identification number and a card or family number so that searches for other family members can easily be made. Dates of birth have been estimated from ages given at census times and are shown as 1st January to enable searches to be made on birth dates. Female spouses can be identified by 'n.' shown in the surname field.
• Wills 1853 - 1939 (145kb) over 3,300 English wills showing dates, addresses, value of estates and executors. This includes several Scottish confirmations executed in London
• Burials Index of over 500 Lawson burials in UK
• Pedigrees submitted by over 500 researchers of the Lawson name worldwide from which additional databases have been compiled
