Introduction

This Web Page has been created to enable other researchers into the Lawson family name to have access to the large amount of data and information I have collated. This is made freely available so that others will benefit and as a result others will contribute the results of their own research so as to enhance the overall study.

In 1987 I took early retirement and realised that I needed to occupy my time in a long lasting hobby. I had not known any of my grandparents, they had all died before I was born and I realised that I knew very little about the origins of my family.

 

This was the start of my family research and I soon became hooked. Initially, I made swift progress and discovered that my family had migrated the short distance from Knaresborough to Leeds in Yorkshire during the mid 1860's.   Picture opposite : St John the Baptist Parish Church, Knaresborough

Previously I had not given much thought to where my family name had its origins. I soon found that whilst this was quite a common British surname it was more prevalent throughout my home County of Yorkshire than other area of the British Isles. It soon became very obvious that Lawson was a name commonly found also in other Northern Counties of England and throughout Scotland too.

I became more deeply involved in the research and ultimately decided to expand into a full One Name Study.   My interest in the Lawson name now extends worldwide and not merely to my own small corner of the world.

The continued success and development of the Lawson One Name Study depends upon the support and co-operation of all member researchers and in order to extend this even further I do ask that you please let me have full details of your own study material so that details can be included.
