Food Intolerance / Food Sensitivity

This is a term used to mean an adverse reaction to food, in which the involvement of the immune system can not be proved by skin prick or RAST blood test. It does not exclude the possibility of immune reactions being involved in some way, but they are unlikely to be the major factor.

Diseases caused by food intolerance include asthma, eczema, urticaria, rhinitis, tinnitus, hayfever, irritable bowel syndrome, migraine, PIMS (Psychological, Irritable bowel, Migraine Syndrome), arthritis and associated problems like long bone pain, swollen, painful and deformed joints. Some forms of epilepsy, and multiple sclerosis, Crohn's disease, hyperactivity / attention deficit disorder, some forms of psychological problems like depression, aggression and violence - which often leads to criminal behaviour. However there will almost always be mineral deficiencies and possibly a Candida problem as well.

Any food can be involved in food intolerance, but the main offenders are grain (wheat, rye, barley, oats, corn, rice, millet, starch and glucose), dairy, some vegetables and fruits. Man-made chemicals that are used in the production of food do play an important part in food intolerance, but they are by no means the main offending substance. Agricultural chemicals also play a part in causing problems so it is best to eat organic foods if possible.
