West Mercia

This land is very complicated, politically and legally, and comprises of a large collection of Shires and Provinces ruled by Barons, Earls and Dukes. There are 22 shires in West Mercia. These shires are encompassed within eighteen Provinces. Each one of these is ruled by an Earl. Below him are between two and five Barons, below each of those are two to ten Baronet Knights, and below each of those are two to eight Manor Lords.

West Mercia is a large Kingdom (nearly twice the size of its eastern neighbour, Central Mercia), but its fractionous nature stops it from achieving domination over its neighbours. There are many unfriendly (and sometimes warring) baronies that bicker constantly, and these can mean that land and titles change hands a little too frequently. It considers itself very civilised.

King Leopotari Moonsung rules here in the Courts of Marble. They can be found in the capital city of Sul, found in the province of Sulgrave. His rule is somewhat harsh and uncaring towards his people, and it is rumoured that many of his lords have tried to usurp the King, only failing due to the King's Court Wizard and his arcane skills.

Although West Mercia shares a border with the Froud Forest region, Elves are still rare here. Trade with them has tailed off in the last few years, with most people thinking that the King has scared them off. When an Elf does appear , it is taken as a good omen by the people.

Due to the heavy taxes and oppression of their lords and King, the people here have become a deceitful and cunning community, using their stealth and crafts to their best effect in order to survive. Lying and cheating comes easy to them, and if an opportunity comes their way, they grab it quick as a flash.
