The Sucellan Protectorates

Sucellos was once a shire of West Mercia with a very strong knighthood, but during the wars of 1165 the head of the knighthood declared Sucellos a free state and challenged any other barons to disagree with him. Not one did. Since that point it has been ruled by the Word of Torul. It is widely known that the woshippers of Torul fight constantly against the demon menace that sits behind the veil of humanity.

The land is governed by the Knights of Sucellos and their King. The Knights are often known as the 'Iron Hand of Justice', and are not kind to the population, oppressing them into mass worship of Torul. Sucellos is not as economically strong as it could be as most of the population spend much time in rigidly enforced prayer. In 1265, King Moonsung of West Mercia establishes links with Sucellos, supplying them with food in exchange for military aid. Sucellos is a well-fortified country situated between the northern tip of Froud Forest and the Thulian Plateau. It shares its borders with six other countries. It is mainly flat grassland, with occasional hills and few woods. Two mighty rivers flow through the centre of Sucellos, the Fremach and the Lor. The beautiful river valleys are marshy but provide good farmland for the many villages that can be found here.
